WERE OPEN AND SO IS GROUPER SEASON

Report Date: May 2, 2020

Tough couple of days for us for opening of grouper season. We had a front move through on Thursday and we’re greeted with 15-18knot north winds Friday and a stiff north current of 3 knots in 90ft if water. Opening day we never had a grouper bite. We caught 4 Amberjack, some rudderfish and 6 snapper we kept. We also trolled for a good part of our 3/4 day because of bottom conditions and only had a couple kingfish bites. Today the wind back off a little but was still much greater then forecast out of the North. We found some current relief but never really marked a lot of fish. Maybe the NE swell has them shuffled. We did catch a keeper Black Grouper and a couple of keeper red grouper. We also broke 4 quality fish off in the bottom and pulled a couple of hooks. Today we also caught a dozen rudderfish and 4 Amberjacks and some snapper as well. Current was from 1.5-4.5 knots where we fished up into a 10-15 knots north wind.
